More people weighing in on harmful Employee Free Choice Act

Now that the deceptively titled Employee Free Choice Act has been officially introduced in Congress, more and more people are weighing in on the proposal's negative implications for workers and jobs.

Here is just a sampling of what is being said about the anti-worker, anti-jobs Employee Free Choice Act from newspapers throughout Pennsylvania and from other voices:

"In a robust economy, the union-coddling Employee Free Choice Act would drain job creation. In a severely recessed economy, it would be a death knell. ...Contrary to unions defending the indefensible, the Employee Free Choice Act is a no "win" for American workers - not when government's intrusion handicaps business growth and, with it, the very jobs so desperately needed in these recessionary times."

  • Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Friday, March 20, 2009

"A secret ballot, away from the eyes of company officials, union organizers and fellow employees, is the only true reflection of what workers want or don't want. It also is the most honest. We, as a nation, are rightfully dismissive of elections elsewhere that don't include a secret ballot. We should be in this case as well."

  • Harrisburg Patriot-News, Tuesday, March 17, 2009

"We expect that when [U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter] takes a long hard look at this act, his conscience will tell him that voting against card check is the right decision - for workers, for companies and for the country."

  • Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, March 4, 2009

"As a long-time friend of labor unions, I must raise my voice against pending legislation I see as a disturbing and undemocratic overreach not in the best interest of either management or labor."

  • George McGovern, former senator from South Dakota and the 1972 Democratic presidential candidate, Wall Street Journal, Aug. 8, 2008
