State Capitol rally reinforces support for private union ballot
Concerned citizens, employers and state lawmakers gathered in the state Capitol on Monday, April 27 to reinforce support for the private union ballot and opposition to the anti-worker, anti-democracy Employee Free Choice Act.
The rally was organized by state Rep. Curt Schroder and state Sen. Mike Folmer, and Citizens to Protect PA Jobs was there!
Schroder and Folmer both have introduced resolutions in the state General Assembly urging Congress to reject the legislation.
EFCA, or union card check, would effectively eliminate the private ballot in union organizing and force the threat of government binding arbitration on employers and employees. A recent study found that enactment of EFCA would result in the loss of nearly 600,000 jobs in the first year alone.
At the event, several speakers representing many perspectives on the issue addressed the crowd and the contingent of media on hand in the Capitol Rotunda. Speakers included Congressman Joseph Pitts, 16th Congressional District; a pro-union Teamsters member who adamantly opposes the Employee Free Choice Act; and businesspeople worried about EFCA's potential harm to their ability to compete and provide job opportunities in their local communities.
Attendees were reminded that the fight is not over! Despite considerable progress being made in the effort to defeat EFCA, those in organized labor who want to trounce on workers' rights to a private ballot organizing process will continue to push for this misguided and harmful legislation.
If you attended the rally - thank you for your support! Keep up the good work!
